The Olympus E-P3 is the third-generation flagship camera in the Olympus Pen line of Micro Four Thirds format mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras. It has a 12-megapixel Live MOS sensor, seriously improved auto focus, full HD video, a beautiful OLED (organic light emitting diode) touchscreen display, a solid metal body and pro-level exposure controls. The Olympus Pen system has matured considerably [...]

A few weeks ago I attended a Leica Akademie workshop (my Leica Akademie M9 workshop article) and was shown Hoodman’s very impressive Raw Steel “ruggedized” SDHC memory cards. I’ve always thought SD memory cards seemed pretty flimsy and when I got to see a standard SD card and a Hoodman Raw Steel SD card taken apart, side by side, I was impressed with the Hoodman card’s [...]

The Nikon D3100 is one of the hottest digital SLRs on the market right now. The great price (under $600 with a lens), plenty of features, excellent image quality and access to Nikon’s excellent lenses make it a no-brainer for first time digital SLR buyers or even serious photographers on a budget. The D3100 has a 14-megapixel sensor, ISO 3200 sensitivity (expandable to ISO 12,800), a 3-inch [...]

The Panasonic Lumix ZS10 is what I call a pocket superzoom camera – it fits in your pocket and it’s got a ton of zoom – a 16x 24-384mm image-stabilized Leica zoom lens, to be exact. That’s a crazy amount of lens reach – especially for a camera that fits in the pocket of your Levis. Because they’re so versatile and easy to carry, pocket superzooms like the ZS10 [...]

Traveling with photography equipment is always tricky. Either you sacrifice comfort and convenience for quality or you sacrifice quality and versatility for convenience. International travel with multiple plane changes is even trickier. In the past I’ve traveled with a suitcase, a laptop shoulder bag and a 30-pound camera backpack. If you end up on a small plane where the camera pack doesn’t [...]

I photograph a few big, multi-day events every year and it’s always a challenge dragging around all my photo gear and trying to keep my camera comfortably accessible. Anyone who’s ever spent the day with a camera bag and a camera around their neck will know what I’m talking about. Needless to say, I’m always looking for better camera carrying solutions for event photography. [...]

Olympus has announced a new flagship Micro Four Thirds Pen camera. The Olympus E-P3 Pen is a solid, metal-bodied camera with a new 12-megapixel sensor, 1920 x 1080 AVCHD video and a new 3-inch OLED touch screen display. Olympus sent me an E-P3 a couple of weeks ago so I could play with it, shoot some sample photos ready and have a video intro ready when the announcement was made.
The most important [...]

Completed in Term 3 (of 6) at Vancouver Film School’s 3D Animation and VFX program.
The assignment was to do a run cycle with a jump in the middle. I wanted to make it more interesting so I took a wing rig from Digital Tutors and attached it to the Norman rig to help him jump:

Leica announced a new pocket camera at the end of May, the V-Lux 30. I got in touch with them immediately and got what I believe is one of the first V-Lux 30s to reach the hands of a journalist. The V-Lux 30 is the latest compact camera from the Leica / Panasonic partnership, which pairs Leica optical expertise with Panasonic’s consumer electronics design and manufacturing power. The V-Lux [...]
