Now this is pretty interesting. Recently at the 2012 SHOT show (tradeshow for outdoors and hunting), Foursevens revealed their new lithium powered LED light. Unlike typical LED lights, the XM18 produces an unprecedented 15,000 lumens of light. According to my simple calculations, the XM18 might be more powerful than your low to mid level Arri HMI lights!

Sony announced a couple of new 16-megapixel W-Series Cybershot point-and-shoot cameras, the DSC-WX70 and DSC-WX50. Both cameras have full HD video, a 5x 25-125mm optical zoom lens and “Clear Image Zoom” technology that effectively doubles the zoom range. Via Engadget, Canon had a tough time last quarter -- Canon had a tough year, in fact. While net income rose slightly (just under 1%), profit fell almost 14% compared to the year-ago quarter. This leaves Canon with almost a 2.5% decline in comparison to the 2010 fiscal year. With this new, COO and President Tsuneji Uchida announced he is stepping down.

Today at iWorld/MacWorld, a tradeshow in San Francisco, CA, Schneider Lenses debuted their new iPhone series lenses. We’ve featured slow motion videos before, and this one is right up there with the best in terms of it’s motion rendering. Shooting with a $500 Canon 550D/T2i, Sacha Powell put together this powerful video using Twixtor to slow down some of his shots. It really goes to show that you don’t need the most expensive gear to make amazing visuals. You'll want to watch this fullscreen.

NASA must be training actual photographers to go into space these days, this timelapse of Earth as seen from the International Space Station is proof. This is one of the radest timelapse videos I have seen of Earth and it's weather. From auroras to electrical storms, this video illustrates just how incredible this planet's environment can be. Every photographer needs a few things in their bag of tricks. An easy trick is to add some smoke to your images for effect. You can always create photo smoke on a budget if you want to MacGyver it but there is another solution - two solutions in fact.
