We reviewed the 1.4x Extender EF II on Monday, and we're following that up today with our review of the 2x Extender EF II. The 2x Extender has been around since 2001, and has already been superceded by version III, but you can still purchase the version II. Near the end of 2010, Olympus released a new zoom lens for its micro four-thirds cameras, the Olympus 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 M.Zuiko Digital. When Panasonic introduced its G2 Lumix camera body, they also updated the kit lens for the system - the Panasonic 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH MEGA O.I.S. LUMIX G Vario. Replacing the 14-45mm, the new lens is slightly lighter and simpler to use, while incorporating Panasonic's continuously variable aperture technology for use in movie recording. Near the end of 2010 Tamron released an update to its champion of all-in-one superzoom SLR lenses, in the form of the Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF. It's more accurate to call it a redesign than an update, as Tamron has replaced the focusing system with a brand-new ultrasonic design (the "Piezo Drive"), and managed to slim it down by 110 grams in the process. In August of 2010 Tamron released an updated version of its 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens, the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VC USD SP AF, with a few notable improvements. The first and most obvious is the addition of Vibration Control (VC) technology, to reduce the effect of camera shake and provide sharper images. In August of 2010, Canon released the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM, the third generation in that category of telephoto zoom lens. This isn't just a cosmetic upgrade, however; the lens is now an L-series lens, complete with weather and dust-sealing, flourine anti-smear coating, and the trademark white finish. Olympus released its 40-150mm f/4-5.6 M.Zuiko near the end of 2010, as a complement to its 14-42mm for the PEN digital series.
