It’s been about three years since Canon introduced their first waterproof, shockproof digital camera, the PowerShot D10 (learn more about the Canon PowerShot D10). A lot of new rugged waterproof cameras have become available since then and I’ve been wondering if and when Canon would update the D10. Well, last night Canon announced the PowerShot D20, a completely redesigned waterproof, shockproof [...]

You'll never look at your breakfast the same way again, thanks to Anna Franz's 1st place winning entry of Nikon's 2011 Small World in Motion Competition. Unlike the second place and third place winners that use widefield fluorescence microscopy and darkfield thechniques, Anna's work is done using a straight up reflected light source. See all three videos here.

Back in the summer of 2010 I shot a documentary in Lewiston, Idaho for directors Vernon Lott & Jennifer Anderson. Influenced by the style I shot “A day at the races” in they hired my to DP their movie.
From the blurb
“The Lewiston / Clarkston valley has a rich history. It is here, at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers, where Lewis and Clark camped on their westward [...]

Full frame…kind of magical words for many, including me. Since the Canon 5DmkII came out all the way back in November 2008 there has not been one full frame DSLR that shoots full HD video come out. Countless crop sensor cameras, but no full frame ones.
Quite a while back we had Canon announce their top end 1DX which is due for release next month, I have not seen one yet so no idea on what [...]

FCP X or in the more unforgiving circles iMovie Pro has divided opinion. It has alienated many people who were die hard FCP 7 users, like me, due to the lack of key features and no backward compatibility with the older system. I have more of less moved over to Premiere due to increasingly impressive features (I am also eyeing the new Avid MC6 which has taken a giant leap forward with the new release, [...]

As many of you might know, Nikon has announced that it will stop selling replacement parts to independent repair shops. This will ultimately reduce the quality and speed of your service -- period. Nikonrumors has done a service by helping to publicize a petition started by Matt Fuerher. Read the succinct petition letter in the full post or when you help sign the petition at Change.org.

The boat this camera came in on must have sunk as soon as it reached the harbor because it was a seriously leaky vessel. However, you never know how much of what the rumor sites say is true until the announcement is official. Well, the Nikon D800 “Multimedia HD-SLR” is now official. The rumors were actually pretty much right on target this time. In a departure from previous strategy, the [...]

In 2001 Super Bowl XXXV's halftime show was performed by Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Britney Spears and Nelly. The show was probably shot with the ultra powerful (for its time) Nikon D1H which had a 2.7mp sensor and was said to create "very usable images at ISO 800." Yesterday we had Madonna and LMFAO perform and their show was shot with the Nikon D3s which has 12mp and shoots similar images at ISO 12,800.

The Canon C300 can utilize a Gamma Curve called Canon Log to increase it’s usable dynamic range to a remarkable 12 stops (explained in detail here). Kevin Ritchie spent a day at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly just testing it out, and I think the results are a great real world example of the power of the C300/Log Gamma combination. Shots look clean at 6400 ISO! Is anyone else as excited [...]

NYC Photographer, Lori Nix, is not you're typical photog, she is also a gifted artist! Her series entitled "The City" is a perfect example of what her creative mind is capable of. She creates dioramas in her small Brooklyn studio with her assistant, Kathleen Gerber, and then photographs the tiny scenes using a large format 8x10 camera (that's right, she is still using film!). Enjoy!

NOTE: My goal for this article is to provide a fair unbiased review of the Scarlet-X. I am aware that RED has numerous fans who can at times be a little blindsided to negative feedback of RED cameras, this review is probably not for you even though for the most part it is VERY positive! It's not very often I see insects and don't freak out a little. Even if only inside my head so as to retain my gruff exterior to my girlfriend. The photos in this series not only managed to keep me from screaming, in fact they did the exact opposite. They gave me a sense of calm and relaxation, a feeling that I have certainly never experienced before when dealing with insects. See the rest of the [...]
